From the roots of Germany, Birkenstocks have been traditional shoes since 1774. These shoes have been reviewed by fashion designers as the best of the best, but when other people see them, they were and are called "ugly shoes". Let's be honest here, most people's go-to-shoes would not be Birkenstocks. I think they are totally amazing but, I doubt I'd actually go spend $70+ dollar shoes if celebrity inspirations (Below) did not wear them. How did they get famous you may ask? Well... let's just say they were doing horrible until the '90s. According the New York Times, Birkenstocks had more sales between 1992-94, then from 1960s-90s combined! It's almost impossible to believe statistics like that... Back to the story, well, massive magazines that hold an abundance of power in the fashion industry started using Birkenstocks such as Kate Moss. German model, Heidi Klum, did a line with Birkenstocks back in the day aka 1990s, it instantly became popular in USA! :) Obviously sandals like this are not yet popular with kids in my age, because, they are... simple said "ugly shoes". With girls especially, the idea of wearing a cute bikini or a trendy dress or even a t-shirt with jeans with shoes with cork on the bottom is repulsive. I say, "Think Again". Now it's time for me to save up and invest into my favorite pair, the Black Patent Birkenstock Madrid. Below are three ways I'd style Birkenstocks via Polyvore, the last being my favorite! :) xx
